5 Ways To Wear A Floral Dress

I don’t know if you have noticed, but stores are filled with different floral dresses. They are definitely making a strong come back after the polka dots and animal prints we have seen last seasons. In addition, they are mentally preparing us for spring and summer. Floral dresses are fun and feminine. However, they can backfire on you if you make the wrong choice. They have the tendency to make you look older than you actually are or just give a peasant vibe to your look. I’m sure you aren’t seeking neither of these results. This is why I’m sharing with you the tricks that will guarantee your floral dress looks are something you are proud of.

Flower types on a floral dress are important

If colour and size don’t matter as much with other prints, they do make a huge difference when it comes to flowers. Floral dresses with lighter background will look more fresh and softer than those with dark backgrounds. Does it mean that you should avoid flowers on dark background? Not at all! Keep reading to find out what style tricks to use to make the dark version of floral dresses work super well for you.

The current trend on flower size is leaning more towards small scale flowers. But if you want to go for bigger ones, make sure they don’t overwhelm your proportions or don’t add extra volume where you don’t need it.

Let’s dig in to the best ways to wear floral dresses this spring/ summer season:

1. Add some brutal or athletic elements

As I have mentioned before, a floral dress can easily look too granny or too simple. How do you counteract that? By adding something masculine or athletic. For example, an oversized blazer, a biker jacket, heavy boots, a hoodie or a pair of ugly sneakers. Whether you want to mix both the masculine and the athletic elements or just have one of them in your floral outfit is totally up to you.

2. Show some skin

I know it can get really hot during the summer and wearing an extra layer of clothing isn’t an option. So that is a good chance to show some skin. Don’t overdo it though because you still want to look descent and actually “dressed”. Your ankles, wrists and neck are a good place to start with. When exposed, they instantly add a fresh vide to your look. Alternatively, use the tested rule of showing only one part of your body. If you have a long sleeve dress, you can wear it short. And if it as a long dress, you can have it sleeveless.

3. Wear them with heels

A floral dress can be worn with high heels or sandals. The trick to make the result modern and young is to have your dress semi fitted or over sized. Stay away from tight floral dresses worn with heels (specially if they are short and you have a heavy makeup on). This is a lethal combination and a guaranteed result of looking 10 years older.

In addition, make sure you have your hair pulled up, braided or in loose waves. Something that says you didn’t care much. It is what balances the feminine aspect of the dress and heels and make your final outfit on point.

4. A floral dress plus another trend

Why not combine another trend with your floral dress? You can wear a crop top of the dress, wear the dress with pants or layer it with a vest.

5. Accessorize it

Although you might think that the floral print might be already enough of a statement already, you shouldn’t underestimate the power of accessories. It is what makes your look complete and different from the masses. Try a utility belt. It is a belt that has two or three different shapes of bags hanging down from it. It will keep your hand free from carrying a bag, accentuate your waist and it is another trend you can use!

Jewelry and other accessories like sunglasses and bags are another thing to consider when creating outfits with floral dresses.
